Pradeep Ranganathan’s latest film, Dragon, has made a stellar start at the box office, collecting an estimated ₹28.80 crore net in India within its first three days. Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, this coming-of-age comedy-drama has particularly resonated with audiences in Tamil Nadu. Following the massive success of Love Today, Ranganathan continues his winning streak with Dragon, which has drawn positive reviews and strong audience engagement.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned ₹6.5 crore on its opening day, followed by a significant jump to ₹10.8 crore on Saturday. The upward trend continued on Sunday, with early estimates indicating a ₹11.50 crore haul, making it the best-performing day so far. The Tamil version has been the driving force, contributing ₹5.4 crore on day one, ₹9.05 crore on day two, and ₹11.50 crore (estimated) on day three. The Telugu-dubbed version has also seen decent traction, with earnings of ₹1.1 crore and ₹1.75 crore on the first two days, respectively.
The film’s stronghold is reflected in its impressive occupancy rates, with Tamil screenings registering a peak of 70.29% on February 23. Telugu screenings also witnessed a steady increase, recording 42.14% occupancy in evening shows. Dragon narrates the journey of a young man whose pursuit of success leads him into a series of misfortunes, affecting his career and relationships. The movie features a stellar cast, including Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, George Maryan, K. S. Ravikumar, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Mysskin.
With a 4-star rating from ETimes, critics have praised the film’s engaging narrative, well-timed humor, and emotional depth. The review highlights how Pradeep Ranganathan’s portrayal of Raghavan aka Dragon makes viewers empathize with him despite his flawed choices. With strong word-of-mouth and increasing weekend collections, Dragon is poised for a successful theatrical run before eventually streaming on Netflix, as per OTT Play reports.
