Following the theatrical release of Rajinikanth’s mega-sequel Jailer 2, significant controversy and discussion have emerged regarding major portions trimmed at the editing table. Both Malayalam actress Anna Rajan and superstar Mohanlal had multiple highly anticipated scenes entirely cut or heavily reduced from the final theatrical version, leaving fans frustrated and prompting members of the film’s team to speak out publicly.

Actress Anna Rajan, who plays the role of Dileep’s (Suraj Venjaramoodu) wife in the film, recently revealed that around 16 of her combination scenes were cut from the final print due to pacing and runtime constraints. She highlighted a specific instance where her character delivers the viral dialogue “Mama, Thambi Paavam.” In the original shoot, Suraj gives a signature expression followed by a cute reaction from Anna, but the editors deleted her reaction frame because they felt it diluted the focus and importance of Suraj’s character arc. Anna stated that the editing was so extensive that she eventually had to ask the crew if she was even left in the film. Despite the massive cuts, she expressed immense happiness about sharing screen space with Rajinikanth and playfully joked that she might return in Jailer 3 to take her revenge.
Reprising his legendary cameo character, Mathew, Mohanlal’s minimal screen time sparked a massive wave of frustration among fans. The actor’s personal stylist and costume designer, Jishad Shamsudeen, publicly called out the makers for heavily trimming his segments. Jishad revealed that three completely distinct character styles and outfits that were meticulously designed and fully shot for Mohanlal were omitted from the movie entirely. Even a quick shot featuring Mohanlal that was showcased in the official promotional trailer was further reduced or chopped out in the final theatrical version, which the stylist labeled as “simply unnecessary.”
The heavy trimming led to online rumors suggesting director Nelson Dilipkumar used a body double or AI for the mega-climax scene involving Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, and Shiva Rajkumar. However, the film’s action director, Chethan D’Souza, firmly debunked these theories, confirming that Mohanlal shot his climax sequences himself, even though the overall role was heavily compressed down to his most vital “original shots.” While the cuts have generated heated debate among fans about what could have been, the clarifications from the film’s team have at least put some of the more sensational rumors to rest.
