Director Prithviraj Sukumaran has officially unveiled the teaser of his much-anticipated third directorial venture, L2: Empuraan. The film, a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, promises an action-packed, blood-soaked narrative that pushes the boundaries of Malayalam cinema. Released on the 25th anniversary of Aashirvad Cinemas and introduced by Malayalam megastar Mammootty, the teaser has created a massive buzz, showcasing Mohanlal’s return as Khureshi Ab’raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally.
Set in the war-torn town of Qaraqosh, Iraq, the teaser sets an ominous tone with the phrase “Death to the Evil” appearing prominently. It revisits a crucial moment from Lucifer, where PK Ramdas (Sachin Khedekar) advises Priyadarshini (Manju Warrier) about Stephen’s role as a savior. A dusty black Ambassador car hints at Stephen’s mysterious absence, while the teaser confirms his reemergence as the head of Asia’s most powerful mercenary group. Mohanlal’s dramatic entrance is paired with a chilling warning: “Never make a deal with the devil.”
Bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas and Subaskaran Allirajah’s Lyca Productions, Empuraan boasts a star-studded cast including Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Saniya Iyappan, and Fazil, reprising their roles from the first film. Cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev, editor Akhilesh Mohan, and music composer Deepak Dev contribute to the film’s technical brilliance. The movie’s shoot wrapped up in December 2024, and it is set for a grand release on March 27, 2025.
