Despite limited screen time, the Malayalam superstar’s explosive appearance has become the single biggest talking point of the trailer, driving fan frenzy across social media and pushing the view count to record-breaking heights within hours of its release on October 5, 2026.
In Jailer 2, Mohanlal officially reprises his beloved cameo character, Mathew, the stylish crime boss who serves as a loyal, long-time ally to Rajinikanth’s Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The trailer features a powerful, singular shot of Mohanlal that exudes pure aura and rugged style. He is seen commanding the frame alongside Rajinikanth, emphasizing a natural sense of mutual respect and unparalleled power between the two stalwarts. Promotional details and trailer analysis indicate that the sequel will dive into a deeper backstory titled “The Past of Mathew,” which will showcase his younger days alongside Muthuvel Pandian, giving fans even more reason to celebrate.
The internet has erupted over Mohanlal’s brief appearance, with his presence heavily driving the trailer’s record-breaking view count. The reception on platforms like X has been incredibly ecstatic. Fans noted that social media began “completely buzzing over that one shot of Lalettan,” with some viewers jokingly pointing out that the hype for Mohanlal momentarily sidelined discussions about the main characters. The anticipation for his return is so high that many are predicting massive theatrical euphoria, especially in Kerala, where his cameo in the first film single-handedly drove historic box-office numbers. Audiences are praising director Nelson Dilipkumar for once again capturing Mohanlal’s signature swagger and “aura farming” perfectly.
Viewers are also thrilled to see that Mohanlal’s Mathew, Shiva Rajkumar’s Narasimha, and Jackie Shroff’s Kamdev are firmly uniting to aid Muthuvel Pandian, setting expectations sky-high for an Avengers-level crossover in South Indian cinema. This convergence of iconic stars from different industries has added a new layer of excitement to the film’s promotional campaign. As the countdown to Jailer 2’s worldwide theatrical release on October 15, 2026, continues, one thing is clear — Mohanlal’s Mathew may have a limited role, but his impact on the film’s buzz and box office potential is nothing short of monumental. For fans across the globe, the return of the Aura King is worth the wait.
