Sarath Das Voices Lord Ram in Malayalam: Veteran Actor Lends His Voice to Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana

Sarath Das is a highly revered figure in Kerala households, most iconic for his serene screen presence and for portraying Lord Krishna in major television epics like Sree Mahabhagavatham and Sree Guruvayurappan. Interestingly, he also previously played Lord Ram in the devotional serial Ayyappa Sharanam, and this deep-rooted connection to playing divine characters made him the natural choice to bring gravitas to Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Ram in Malayalam. During promotional interviews for the film’s release, Sarath jokingly mentioned that while he got to voice the character, he didn’t actually get a chance to meet Ranbir Kapoor during the process. He quipped that if he had met him, he would have told him: “You Ram, I Dubbed for Ram in Malayalam”.

To ensure that the pan-Indian epic translates flawlessly across languages, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra utilized specialized AI technology strictly for meticulous lip-sync matching. This allows the distinct vocal performances of seasoned voice actors like Sarath Das to seamlessly align with Ranbir’s on-screen expressions, preserving the emotional authenticity of the performance while adapting it to the linguistic nuances of each language.

Sarath Das is a prominent name in the Malayalam entertainment industry with over 25 years of experience. Beyond his extensive acting credits in movies and over 100 television serials, he is a two-time Kerala State Film Award winner for Best Dubbing Artist, winning for Achuvinte Amma in 2005 and Edavappathy in 2017. He has frequently lent his voice to prominent stars across Malayalam cinema and multi-language dubs, making him one of the most trusted voices in the industry. With Ramayana: Part 1 arriving in theatres today, Malayalam audiences can experience the epic tale of Lord Ram with a voice that carries decades of devotion, artistry, and divine association behind it.
