Sigma is a heist action comedy that released on October 2, 2026, marking the highly anticipated directorial debut of Jason Sanjay. As the son of Tamil superstar-turned-politician and Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay, Jason Sanjay’s entry into cinema, specifically choosing to stay behind the camera, has drawn immense public interest. The film follows Guru, played by Sundeep Kishan, a rogue treasure hunter and radio host who doubles as a debt-ridden librarian. When Guru discovers a curious key to a secret vault, he is betrayed and loses everything. To reclaim his life and tide over his financial crisis, he designs an elaborate heist to outsmart a ₹500-crore crime syndicate controlled by Kotlapadi Veeraiya Reddy, played by Sampath Raj. The narrative leans into a fast-paced Gen Z treatment, blending action, heist elements, and comedy.

The film features Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in lead roles, supported by Sampath Raj, Raju Sundaram, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan, and Yog Japee. Music is composed by Thaman S, and the film is produced by Subaskaran under the banner of Lyca Productions. It was released in both Tamil and Telugu, aiming to capture audiences across two major linguistic markets. Despite the star-studded backing and the curiosity surrounding Jason Sanjay’s debut, the film had a relatively slow start at the box office, grossing ₹2.35 crore nett in India on its opening Friday. Collections dropped by 36.2 percent on Saturday, pulling in ₹1.50 crore nett, bringing its two-day domestic total close to ₹3.85 crore. The film recorded a 31.1 percent theatre occupancy on its first day, which slid down to 22.6 percent on day two.

Reviews have been heavily divided across social media platforms like X and mainstream media. Audiences have widely appreciated Sundeep Kishan’s energetic performance and comic timing. The grand scale of production, Thaman’s energetic background score, the interval block, and a specific carnival sequence have been highlighted as major strengths. Industry peers, including actors Suriya and Jyotika, publicly lauded the young director’s independent drive. However, critics argue that Jason Sanjay played it too safe for his first outing. The writing has faced flak for relying on a highly predictable, outdated heist template and generic tropes involving crime syndicates. This mixed reception has resulted in polarized opinions among viewers, with some praising the entertainment value and others finding it formulaic.

The digital streaming rights for Sigma have already been acquired by a major streaming platform. Due to its current box office trajectory, reports indicate it will follow a standard theatrical window, setting it up for an OTT premiere in late October or early November 2026. As Jason Sanjay’s first directorial venture, Sigma serves as a learning curve for the young filmmaker, and its performance in the coming days will determine whether it can overcome the mixed word-of-mouth and find a wider audience on streaming platforms.
