Immortal OTT Release: G.V. Prakash and Kayadu Lohar Romantic Horror on this October 30

Directed and written by newcomer Mariyappan Chinna, Immortal is a romantic horror and fantasy thriller with a runtime of 131 minutes. The story follows Magi (G.V. Prakash), a young man working at a printing press in Chennai who is desperately searching for affordable housing. He encounters a mysterious woman named Sindhu (Kayadu Lohar), who offers him a room in her luxurious apartment at an incredibly cheap rent. However, Magi soon discovers that Sindhu is actually an ancient supernatural, blood-feeding creature hiding a dangerous, centuries-old secret. The narrative opens around 1,000 years ago with a tribal couple and a child born with mysterious supernatural qualities, before shifting to modern-day Chennai where Magi’s housing search leads him into a trap from which escape seems impossible.

G.V. Prakash Kumar delivers a reliable performance as a carefree and desperate young man caught in a terrifying supernatural trap, effectively conveying fear and vulnerability as an ordinary man in bizarre circumstances. Kayadu Lohar is widely commended for her dual nature, effectively portraying both an eccentric, beautiful neighbor and a chilling monster—a performance that critics noted holds the film together even when the writing falters. The supporting cast includes T. M. Karthik, Lollu Sabha Maaran, and Aaditya Kathir, providing comedic relief and structural support to the narrative. The strong chemistry and performances between the two leads are universally highlighted as the main saving grace of the movie.

Critical reception has been mixed, with ratings ranging from 2 to 2.5 out of 5 stars. The Times of India criticized the film for playing out like “a textbook of horror film templates with the blandest execution,” describing the screenplay as meandering and the romantic buildup as superficial. NDTV noted that while the premise is intriguing, the flawed screenplay prevents the film from being truly engaging, with the romance treated superficially and the creature’s characteristics confusingly blending monster and vampire tropes. However, viewers widely appreciated the excellent visual effects, Arun Radhakrishnan’s eerie atmospheric cinematography, and Sam C.S.’s stellar background music, which critics agreed elevates the tension and build-up in key scenes. With its SonyLIV premiere set for October 30, Immortal offers streaming audiences a visually striking supernatural romance that, despite its narrative flaws, has enough atmospheric craft and lead chemistry to warrant a watch for genre fans.
