Suraj Venjaramoodu portrays a powerful, menacing character named Dileep, stepping into a major villainous avatar opposite Rajinikanth. Jailer 2 Trailer: Suraj Venjaramoodu Emerges as the Primary Villain in Rajinikanth’s Action Spectacle

Suraj’s character Dileep is introduced as a mysterious, dangerous, and volatile gangster who commands his own syndicate. He sports a highly intense, dark, and gritty look for this film, and the character appears to be in a volatile, almost manic state of mind, hunting for Tiger Muthuvel Pandian with his own hidden agenda. Suraj enjoys heavy, plot-driving visibility in the Jailer 2 trailer. The trailer opens with a massive focus on his character, with Suraj seen interrogating a hostage and aggressively demanding information about the whereabouts of the man responsible for the chaos unfolding around them. Through Suraj’s interrogation scene, the trailer cleverly sets up Rajinikanth’s hidden identity, as the hostage warns Dileep that he won’t be able to easily track down the elusive former jailer. He is depicted stepping out of cars, surrounded by his heavily armed gang, smoking a cigar with an intimidating screen presence.

The reception to Suraj’s character glimpse and trailer presence has been overwhelmingly positive, especially across South India. Fans are celebrating the transition, with Mollywood and Kollywood audiences expressing high excitement over seeing Suraj in a raw, stylized negative shade opposite a superstar like Rajinikanth. The 35-second standalone character promo scored by Anirudh Ravichander has generated millions of views, with fans praising the heavy, bass-thumping background score customized for Dileep. Alongside Suraj, the sequel expands its universe with massive new additions, including SJ Suryah playing Bodhi Kalpak and Vidya Balan. Massive cameos from the original film, including Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, are also briefly teased, adding to the film’s pan-Indian appeal.

Following the events of the first film, where a dying Varman warned Muthuvel Pandian of “the ones on top,” Suraj’s character Dileep represents a formidable new tier of threat. Rather than a minor cameo, he is positioned as one of the fundamental antagonists alongside SJ Suryah and Mithun Chakraborty. His presence is expected to heavily drive the main conflict, pushing Rajinikanth’s character out of his self-imposed driver disguise and back into full-scale action. Jailer 2 is scheduled to hit cinemas worldwide on October 15, 2026, making it Rajinikanth’s first film to get a wide global release in IMAX. It will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. With Suraj Venjaramoodu leading the antagonist ranks, the film promises a gripping clash between two powerhouse performers, and fans are eagerly awaiting the theatrical release to witness this electrifying face-off on the big screen.
